Give it up for Audio Up. They are on a roll with fiction, scripted podcasts. Earlier this week, the studio released Sonic Leap, which is the completely made-up backstory of real-life rock act
Hero the Band – four Atlanta-based fraternal brothers who get
sent back to 1985 to “change their future and the future of music.”
Now, it's the season two premiere of Make It Up As We Go.
Make It Up As We Go: season two continues the gripping story of ambitious young country singer Charlotte Sayles (portrayed by singer, songwriter, actor, and series co-creator Scarlett Burke), who has now made her way into Nashville’s male-dominated country hit factory to shake things up and make her fame.
Canyon, TX songwriter Charlotte Sayles moves to Nashville and faces an uphill battle in the complex and often dysfunctional music industry. Music Row veterans Emily Turner, Marshall Tracy, and Apollo Joiner help Charlotte navigate the trials and tribulations of a young female songwriter in Music City. At the end of Season One, following a rollercoaster of rookie mistakes, writer’s block, and soul searching, Charlotte finally breaks through and gets a song cut by Miranda Lambert. After its surprise premiere on the “Bobby Bones Show” attended by those who helped pave the way for her meteoric rise, Charlotte finds Marshall unconscious in his trailer of an apparent overdose...
Below is a brief description of the first episode. After Charlotte’s father dies suddenly of a heart attack, Apollo, Emily, and Elliot come to Canyon to attend the funeral and rally around Charlotte. Marshall shows up and surprises everyone, clean and recovered, ready to get back to work. Emily recognizes the weight of Charlotte losing another parent, and implores her to unpack her grief by doing what she does best: writing songs. So, she offers them a space at a writing retreat in the Texas Hill Country at the world famous Wayside Ranch. Charlotte is on the fence about the retreat, but a call from Miranda Lambert expresses condolences and encourages her to go write at Wayside. As they are packing up to leave, a tornado touches down in Marshall’s hometown outside Shreveport, so he peels off east to help his family. As the dust settles, and Charlotte is hit by the loneliness on a moonlit Texas front porch of a house that used to be a home, she starts writing “Gone in the Morning”...
Below is a description of the second episode.
Charlotte heads to Wayside Ranch in Hill Country and Marshall arrives at his childhood home, while Elliot and Apollo hatch a plan to turn Charlotte into a star. Charlotte meets Lawford Keane, the humble heartthrob and caretaker of Wayside ranch, and they hit it off immediately. Marshall’s hometown was hit hard, and although his house has barely evaded destruction, the old family demons are still on full display. At an unsightly reunion, the skeletons in the Tracy family closet are paraded through the devastated Shreveport streets. His struggling parents, their dysfunctional marriage, and the younger brother he left behind to deal with it all take a heavy emotional toll on Marshall. While he is forced to reconcile his past and present, Charlotte is tested professionally and emotionally amongst the best and brightest songwriters in Texas.
Series co-creator Scarlett Burke and Audio Up founder and CEO Jared Gutstadt, who co-created the series, both star in the show and provide original music along with acclaimed actor Garrett Hedlund, GRAMMY Award-winning producer and recording artist Shooter Jennings, music icon Nile Rodgers, Grammy-nominated artist Elle King, award-winning Nashville songwriter Liz Rose, Kat and Alex, Breland, Abby Anderson, and Chord Overstreet.
