New Episode Of Crime Show Podcast: “A Man With No Name”

Sure, there are a lot of true-crime podcasts positioning themselves as the audio version of HLN's long-running Forensic FilesSorting through the podcast feeds for "ear worthy" true-crime podcasts, Crime Story by Gimlet / Spotify stands out.

Crime Show

Why?

First, it's the hosting prowess of journalist and oral historian Emma Courtland, whose voice perfectly projects the menace felt by the victims and details the narrative with the cadence of a professional storyteller.

Second, the series is really about people – the survivors, victims, perpetrators – in their own words, telling their crime stories and the impact they’ve had on their lives.

Third, the tales told defy definition, ranging from a boardinghouse with missing residents, a woman who discovered that her voice was stolen, and a MySpace "crime" that exposed judicial corruption.

Crime Show's new episode “A Man With No Name” follows the complex story of a man who wakes up outside a shopping mall in Cincinnati, Ohio in the summer of 1990 with no recollection of how he got there, who he is, or how he got the disturbing wound on his hand. For three days, he wanders around the mall until a stranger finally starts asking questions and the man realizes that he needs to reckon with how he ended up there - and why he is missing part of a finger.

He is taken to a nearby hospital, and a highly-publicized search begins to uncover the man’s identity. As law enforcement, doctors, and the man himself work together to piece together the bizarre puzzle, a shocking reality begins to come into focus.

During the episode, host Courtland speaks with the people directly involved in the case - the doctors, law enforcement officials, and “John Doe” himself - bringing listeners from that mall in Cincinnati to a prison cell in Florida, where the man is currently serving a life sentence for the horrific crime it is ultimately revealed that he committed - one that he still has no recollection of.
