Second Season Of "We Said What We Said" Podcast Releasing This Week

Rickey Thompson and Denzel Dion will be returning with a second season of their acclaimed podcast series, “We Said What We Said,” available exclusively on Spotify.

To commemorate this week’s season premiere, the duo dropped an exclusive video trailer for the series, you can view HERE. You can also listen to the first episode, “TikTok Kids Are Cute” HERE.

We Said What We Said

In August 2020, Spotify signed a deal with Rickey Thompson and Denzel Dion, best friends and popular fashion and lifestyle influencers, for an exclusive weekly podcast series.

The two L.A.-based comedic internet celebs, who first rose to fame on the now-defunct Vine app, have sizable followings on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok — a fanbase Spotify is banking on to attract listeners. On Instagram alone, Thompson counts 5.9 million followers and Dion has 1.8 million.

The duo developed their podcast -- We Said What We Said -- and have completed a highly successful first season.

We Said What We Said brings these two internet celebs and longtime besties-turned-hosts together every week to dish on pop culture, sex, partying, struggle, love, and so much more. The series features bold advice, hot takes, and risqué storytelling.

Below are some best-of moments from the first season, handpicked by Ricky Thompson and Denzel Dion.

In “Situationships” Ricky gets candid about his trust issues and how it propelled his spying session on a recent Mexico vacay with his current partner. Denzel recalls a serendipitous moment during NYFW that turned a fan wanting a picture into a lover.

In “Cute to be Black” the friends delve into what it means to be a Black creator as they chat through the nuances around the word “urban” and contextualize brands’ performative activism amid the recent Black Lives Matter resurgence. Denzel also recalls how these themes of race have influenced his experience finding out he was being underpaid, while the BFFs unpack the culture around “whitewashing” among Lizzo fans.

In “Manifest this Ish” Rickey and Denzel take 2020 into review as they look ahead for what’s to come. Rickey shares a story of a New Year’s Eve without a kiss, overcoming heartbreak, and shares his ambitions to break into acting. Denzel explains his journey going vegan and teases his big plans for recently launched fashion line, Noid. Both also talk through their mantras for 2021: be kind, mind your business and get your money.

In “Grown People Sex 2” both dive into a NSFW convo where Rickey pulls the curtain behind his kinky side and wild escapades in graphic detail (which includes a Postmates delivery, Ubers, and a rave that wasn’t really a rave) while Denzel chronicles the stories behind his reservations about sex (which includes a shady partner and secretly taken photos).

In “Influencing Influencers” the BFFs debunk the “talentless” stereotyping among influencers, and debate the problems with cancel culture. The duo also gets into how different the industry is for Black creators compared to their counterparts, and the hard conversations about appropriated work (hint: the Renegade challenge making waves post-Charli D'Amelio). Rickey and Denzel both close with a story of their come-up which includes a lesson on finding real friends and a fun surprise from Adele.

To kick things off for the new season, the podcast hosts, actors, fashion icons, and social media celebs must ask but one simple question: “why haven’t WE made it yet?” Tired of the BS, they reflect on influencers in the age of TikTok, going on audition after audition, the empty promises, and all the other trials and tribulations with making it.
