Spotify Announces The Latest Edition of The Sound Up Program for Underrepresented Voices

Podcasting began with a small bang, unlike the universe. People with little experience, paper-thin tech knowledge, and pre-Y2K equipment started to broadcast via podcasts.

They were, in the early 2000s, those underrepresented voices.

Today, Spotify continues that tradition in podcasting by announcing the latest edition of the Sound Up program, continuing to support the voices of underrepresented podcasters.

The Sound Up program provides these nascent podcasters with the tools to boost their platforms and build their very own shows. After the ongoing success of previous editions, the latest immersive training program will aim to uplift and amplify the next generation of diverse storytellers in the family podcast space.

Some of the key highlights include:

  • Over the course of five months, up to 10 selected aspiring podcasters will receive support and guidance through in person training and virtual workshops, and supplied with all the technology and tools needed to succeed.
  • Participants will learn about the art and strategy of podcast creation and the ins and outs of development, while focusing on what it takes to make high-quality content for families with support from experts in child development, education, and content safety.
  • The program amplifies the power of storytelling and provides actionable insight for each participant to create their very own fiction or nonfiction pilot episode that accounts for kids’ intellect and emotional wellbeing to provide a rich co-listening experience.
  • The program will be facilitated by Sound Up’s longtime partner and collaborator Rekha Murthy, an independent podcast strategist, along with Dawn J. Fraser, professional storyteller and communications coach.

With podcasting speeding more vertical business integration and domination by large podcast networks, it's promising to see Spotify carve a niche for those who have their own unique stories to share.

The Sound Up application is now live and can be found HERE.
