The Truth About the Word “Marijuana” - New Episode Weed Words Podcast Series

How to Do the Pot released a new episode in its Weed Words
podcast series all about the word “marijuana,” a term that many people might not realize is intertwined with a complicated, hurtful, and quite-frankly racist history. If you weren’t aware of the weight the word “marijuana” carries — you’re not alone, and this episode will help shed light on its convoluted past.

As of April 20th, 2022, there are 18 States in the U.S. that allow anyone over the age of 21 to use cannabis and 38 States allow medical use.

Unfortunately, many of these celebrations neglect to recognize that 40,000 people are still incarcerated in the U.S. for cannabis crimes and that number disproportionately includes Black people. The word marijuana plays a part in how that number became so high.

Each month, the Weed Words podcast series unpacks a widely recognized but narrowly understood term or phrase related to cannabis. It looks at the many tricky, telling, and thought-provoking terms, and even more funny, fictitious and factual phrases that surround cannabis. Previous episodes have covered CBD, the munchies, and paranoia.

How to Do the Pot is a weekly podcast that demystifies cannabis for women through narrative storytelling and informed recommendations and advice.

Host Ellen Scanlon brings compelling narratives from women across the U.S. who have discovered how to incorporate cannabis into their lives, whether that means as a stress or pain reliever, sex enhancer, sleep aid, or simply as a means to achieving a healthier buzz at the end of a long day.

Ellen also highlights the voices of accredited medical professionals and trusted experts to ensure listeners are fully informed about issues such as dosage, general safety, legal issues, and more.
