Canada Beats U.S. In Podcast Listening; Listening In Rural Areas Lags; Bodily Autonomy Podcasts

Canadians top Americans in Podcast listening

Look out America. You just got beaten by Canada. Now, it's not soccer, baseball or even Canadian football. It's worse. Podcast listening.

Edison Research released the Infinite Dial Canada that measure podcast popularity and usage. Forty-three percent of Canadians 18+ listen to podcasts monthly, up five percentage points from 2021, which means that Canadians now outpace Americans (38%) and Australians (40%) for monthly podcast listening.

Well, at least we've still topped Canada in wingnut election fraud conspiracies, right-wing extremist groups, and the ability to ignore facts we don't agree with.

Podcast listening in rural areas lags behind big cities

We regularly report about the ubiquity of podcasts, which leads to the mistaken impression that regular podcast listening is a habit adopted by Americans everywhere. But a recent PodNews article reports that monthly podcast listening in America’s small cities and rural areas lags listening in both large cities and suburbs by about 25 percent.

For new and aspiring podcasters, there are opportunities and audiences primed for a podcast that appeals to them. Clearly, there are opportunities in rural areas and small cities.

Podcast Besties Founder says "Let's Talk Bodily Autonomy"

Courtney Kocak, founder of Podcast Besties, has compiled a list of podcasts that support a woman's right to abortion. For a scientific approach to abortion, check out the Science Vs podcast episode: Science Vs: Abortion: The Science and the Supreme Court - In the Supreme Court opinion, Science Vs found a lot of scientific-sounding statements. So they wanted to find out whether these statements are true. They’ll tell you what actually happens in an abortion, whether a fetus can feel pain, and what the risks are for a pregnant person. They visit an abortion clinic in Texas and talk to Dr. Amita Murthy, Dr. Lisa Harris, and Dr. Diana Foster.
