New York Times Podcasts: "Sway" Finale; Gay & Republican?; Jan. 6th Smoking Gun? ;Adoption Angst

I know, it's a holiday weekend. People enjoy their beach reads, queue up for coasters, and show off their keto body while "jonesing" for a carb.

If you are searching for a thoughtful diversion that makes you think rather than rage, try the latest New York Times podcasts. The topics range from Kara Swisher interviewing "herself," to the other "A" word -- adoption.

"Sway": Behind the Scenes of ‘Sway’ With Kara Swisher

The Sway podcast has put out almost 200 episodes in more than 20 months, with guests ranging from Elon Musk and Bill Gates to Stacey Abrams and BrenĂ© Brown. As the show comes to a close, host Kara Swisher tackles her most elusive guest for last: Kara Swisher herself. In the “Sway” finale, the tech journalist and podcast host revisits conversations with Nancy Pelosi and Monica Lewinsky and answers listeners’ questions.

First Person: She’s Gay and a Republican. Is There a Place for Her in the G.O.P.?

In late June, the Texas GOP Convention banned attendance by Log Cabin Republicans, which is a gay conservative group that promotes inclusion for gays and lesbians.

In the latest episode of First Person, being gay and Republican never felt like identities that were at odds to Jerri Ann Henry. But in recent years, with G.O.P. legislators backing anti-L.G.T.B.Q. laws in several states and the constitutional right to same-sex marriage potentially threatened after the reversal of Roe v. Wade, Henry has found herself wondering whether she still has a place in the Republican Party — or any party. She joins Lulu Garcia-Navarro to talk about the recent Republican rollbacks on L.G.B.T.Q. rights and her fears surrounding the loss of individual liberties.

"The Argument": ‘This Really Changes Things’: Three Opinion Writers on Cassidy Hutchinson’s Jan. 6 Testimony

In revelatory testimony, Cassidy Hutchinson, who was a top aide to Trump’s White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, divulged details about just how much Trump and some of his supporters knew about the potential for violence at the Capitol before Jan. 6. Host Jane Coaston is joined by The Times’s columnist Bret Stephens and editorial board member Michelle Cottle to unpack the new testimony and what it might mean for Trump — and the future of the G.O.P.
