Serious Drops Podcast About Skateboarding Launches

The stereotype of a skateboarder is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed teen from California.

I love podcasts that disrupt those silly stereotypes.

So, there is a new Black-owned pro skateboarding + culture podcast, Serious Drops, that launches with new episodes available weekly covering everything in skateboarding culture including new fashion drops and culture news.

Pro skater Robert Neal will join the podcast as one of the first guests along with  Co-Founder of footwear prototype studio FCTRY LAb, Omar Bailey, and Pro Skater Theotis Beasley, during a special live taping at SneakerCon in Los Angeles on September 15. Serious Drops launches as the official podcast and media partner for the forthcoming 4DL pro skateboarding best trick competition coming to Los Angeles March 2024.

Serious Drops and 4DL enter the skateboarding conversation through the leadership of skateboarding CEO Sheldon Lewis, who champions a more inclusive approach to skateboarding including producing co-ed competitions and raising conversations about the cultural intersections between skateboarding fashion, music, and more. The Serious Drops podcast will launch as a culture-forward mouthpiece, inviting conversation for a variety of skateboarding topics that touch other parts of mainstream culture.

4DL, the first-of-its-kind skateboarding best trick competition and music festival, today announced its inaugural date of March 2024 at Optimist Studios in Los Angeles. 4DL (4 Da Love) is a groundbreaking event combining skateboarding competition with a music festival featuring some of the world’s top professional skateboarders, music headliners, and other skate-centric activations and vendors. Leading up to the event, the organizers are launching the Serious Drops podcast, a new weekly skateboarding podcast serving as the official podcast and media partner for 4DL at this year’s Sneaker Con.

Pro Skateboarder and model Briana King will serve as the event’s MC which will pair three men and eight women in a head-to-head best trick competition, giving each pair three minutes to land their best trick against a backdrop of avid skate fans. Veteran Pro Skaters Robert Neal, Boo Johnson and Keelan Dadd are the first skaters in the competition to be announced, with other names and performing talent to be announced prior to the event.

“I can’t wait to show skateboarding fans a new and exciting competition with some of the best women and men in skate today,” said CEO of  4DL’s production outfit IDM. “We’re excited to reveal a completely new experience with 4DL, while celebrating skateboarding’s connection to culture with our Serious Drops podcast.”

Featuring exclusive interviews with pro skaters and celebrities, the 4DL podcast takes a deep dive into the world of  skateboarding culture, sneakers, and exclusive announcements and drops from the brands that skateboarders love. Robert Neal, DJ Sneakerhead and Matt Jey aka “Shoe Hefner” will join the new Serious Drops podcast as some of the first guests ahead of a special live taping of the podcast at Sneaker Con Los Angeles.

The Serious Drops podcast will be led by a three-person hosting team including singer Karly Moreno, radio host Dejai Jeffries, and singer Jasmine Villegas. Other confirmed guests include Co-Founder of footwear prototype studio FCTRY LAb, Omar Bailey, and Pro Skater Theotis Beasley.

Serious Drops will premiere everywhere podcasts are available beginning Thursday, September 22 with new episodes available weekly. The podcast will have a marquee presence at 4DL next year, with live coverage of the competition and performances.
