Buzzfeed announces new culture podcast
Culture podcasts are a strangely hard to gauge genre. The show could be about books, movies, art, music, and other related topics. The tricky part is that your audience may not enjoy all the tentacles of culture.
To me, NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour and Slate's Culture Gabfest do it best, but in podcasting there's always room for more great content.
Enter Buzzfeed.
BuzzFeed and Acast are partnering to debut a new podcast series titled I Know That’s Right. The weekly show, presented by HuffPost, the award-winning digital news organization and hosted by HuffPost’s Senior Culture Reporter Taryn Finley, provides a weekly rundown of the latest in culture, entertainment and trending conversations.
Every week on the podcast, HuffPost Senior Culture Reporter Taryn Finley takes a dive into the conversations that hit the internet first, focusing on culture and entertainment, bringing a guest in to flesh out the harder hitting topics each episode.
Buzzfeed asserts: "This show is fun, smart and conversational, leaning on Taryn’s own takes, opinion and voice to make listeners feel like they’re a part of the conversation. It takes the conversations they’re already having in their group chats and puts them on one platform. It’s the show that they’ll get lost in on their commute, washing dishes or taking a midday walk, urging them to blurt out 'I know that’s right!' every now and then."
“BuzzFeed and HuffPost have played massive roles in defining the internet culture that we know today. With I Know That’s Right, we’re creating conversations around those moments and trends for audiences across all listening apps to enjoy,” said Veronika Taylor, SVP, Creator Network at Acast.
I Know That’s Right is part of BuzzFeed Studios and Acast’s existing partnership, which was announced last year
and includes a slate of six audio series for global listeners with
diverse programming and talent from BuzzFeed, Inc.’s global brands and
fan-favorite franchises.
I hope I Know That’s Right is right for you in December.
Two Real Housewives from NJ score a podcast
I've only watched a few episodes of the Real Housewives franchise in my life, and that's because we stayed at someone's house who loved the show. As guests, sponging off their hospitality, it behooved us to watch the show with them.
After watching, I realized why so many people from countries around the world hate Americans so much. If they think that all Americans act like the people on these Bravo shows, I'd hate us, too.
I do find it objectionable to term these women as "Real Housewives." First, must you have an income in seven figures to be considered "real?" Second, to ensure high ratings, does the show relentlessly search for the most vicious "Karens" in the nation?
Thankfully for Andy Cohen, I am not his key demographic, so Mr. Cohen can rest easy.
Having made those gratuitous comments, I admit that every podcast I review is not in my wheelhouse. Nor should it be.
But an honest reviewer, who is there to help his listeners or readers find content they will enjoy, should answer only this question. Did the podcast provide value, entertainment or education for its targeted demographic? If the show accomplished that goal, then my utter disdain for these reality shows on Bravo is irrelevant.
That's why I give you a new iHeartPodcasts show titled “Two Jersey Js” with New Jersey Housewives and best friends, Jackie Goldschneider and Jennifer Fessler. Presented by iHeartRadio’s highly-rated “Two Ts In A Pod” with hosts Tamra Judge and Teddi Mellencamp, “Two Jersey Js” will be a spin-off of what it’s like to be a real housewife and navigating life on and off the screen.
iHeart says that "Two Jersey Js with Jackie Goldschneider and Jennifer Fessler will be providing listeners with a refreshing and relatable twist on the reality of being a real housewife. From menopause to making the most of your 40s and 50s, these two Jersey Js will explore the unfiltered, unapologetic, and often hilarious realities of women who are chasing that spark in life, finding love, navigating deep friendships, and finding satisfaction in everything. If being a Real Housewife feels overwhelming at times, be a friend to one. Jackie and Jennifer prove that opposites not only attract, but are better for it."
The premiere episode releases on Monday, December 4. We will see if this new show appeals to Real Housewives fans. If it does, terrific. If it doesn't, to the landfill in the Meadowlands with the show.
Tune in to "Two Ts In A Pod" live from BravoCon to hear the news directly from Jackie and Jennifer.
