Trevor Noah & The Grammys; EarBuds / Black Perspective Podcasts: Great Pods

Trevor Noah discusses hosting the Grammy Awards on his podcast

This is undoubtedly one of Noah's best episodes as he offers listeners a close-up view of the Grammy Awards. In What Now? with Trevor Noah, the comedian and former Daily Show host brings listeners behind-the-scenes of this past weekend’s Grammy Awards.

From how they handled Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift’s late arrivals on live television (28:28), to Jay-Z’s speech (11:37), to a golf cart traveling the wrong way on the 110 freeway in the pouring rain to get Mariah Carey to the stage on time (7:55), and the Taylor Swift/Celine Dion moment on everyone’s minds (24:15), Trevor Noah gives us a fascinating peek behind the curtain of navigating music’s biggest night.

EarBuds Podcast Collective on Black Perspectives for Black History Month

Every week, Arielle Nissenblatt distributes the EarBuds Podcast Collective recommendations by topic. Five podcasts are recommended according to a theme, and they are curated by a different person.

This week, the recommendation curator is Black perspectives for Black History Month. This week's curator is attorney / podcaster / racial equity consultant Whitney Knox Lee.

Lee choose this theme because "Race, as a social construct, holds tangible consequences. In cross-racial or multi-cultural settings, we frequently encounter perspectives from backgrounds vastly different from our own for the first time."

Lee continues: "Podcasts offer a safe and neutral avenue for this exploration; this Black History Month, I invite you to listen in on some of my favorite podcasters from the African Diaspora."

One of the most intriguing podcasts recommended is Tea with Tanya
Black Maternal Wellness with Nneka Symister, LCSW. The show is described by its host as: "We dive deep into the topic of Black maternal wellness. Despite recent attention, Black maternal health outcomes continue to lag behind other demographic groups. We explore the disparities in maternal health outcomes for Black women and the factors that contribute to these disparities, including systemic racism, implicit bias, and lack of access to quality care. This conversation also discusses the emotional toll of being a Black birthing person, and generally discuss Black maternal wellness."

One of her best recent episodes about mindful ambitions for the new year. In this show, host Tanya Ambrose observes: "Our conversation will revolve around the power of intentions versus the fleeting nature of resolutions, and we'll delve into how to transform your dreams into SMART goals—specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound steps that pave a deliberate path to a gratifying new year."
