Introducing the All New ‘The Athletic NBA Daily’ Podcast

Sports radio has a reputation for engaging passionate hometown sports fans, who speak their minds on call-in shows around the nation. On the net positive, sports radio energizes people through fandom, and through dreams of their own accomplishments via the pros excelling at their given sport.

On the net negative, sports is often a placeholder for the disappointments, regrets, failures we suffer in life. We infuse unqualified support for the home team to replace the life that let us down. Blame is placed on the opponents of our team, just as in life, we hide our omissions inside angry catcalls against the other team.

Thankfully, sports reporting in podcasting has found a niche safe from "fan" extremists. There are numerous quality sports podcasts, from basketball to soccer, American football to rugby.

Through their sports publication, The Athletic, NYT Audio has announced The Athletic NBA Daily, a fast, entertaining daily recap of the most important games and stories from the world of professional basketball. The show is the successor to “The Athletic NBA Show.”

Hosted by Dave DuFour, Zena Keita and Esfandiar Baraheni and with regular appearances by The Athletic’s award-winning NBA reporters, weekday episodes will deliver the latest basketball stories within a swift and digestible 20-25 minute runtime. Each Saturday, Andrew Schlecht and Alex Spears will review the week’s events with a longer, 45-minute “Slam n’ Jam” episode.

Because The Athletic NBA Daily records every night after all league games have concluded, listeners will always have the most up-to-date information and insight ready in time for their morning commutes — including any late-breaking news.

New episodes of The Athletic NBA Daily will be released at 6 a.m. Eastern, from Monday to Saturday.

In a media world where some podcast networks try to flood the zone with podcasts of dubious or null quality, New York Times Audio does provide compelling content that is exhaustively researched and thoughtfully presented. I recommend all of their shows.
