A few months ago, I reviewed one of the best paranormal podcasts out there called Paranormal Brew. That video podcast explores the world of ghosts, people who have died but remain in the physical realm in one form or another. In investigating that community, I learned that people who believe in the paranormal are not necessarily devotees of other unexplained phenomena, such as werewolves, UFOs, BigFoot, and other cryptids.
That's how I stumbled onto Broadcasting Seeds, which I describe as similar in many ways to Lore by Aaron Mahnke, which is a show we've reviewed and recommended enthusiastically.
Mr. Tanton challenges listeners, "From the existence of cryptids like Bigfoot and the implications of government UFO cover-ups to the mysteries of ancient civilizations and the enigmatic phenomena of the Mandela Effect, we challenge you to open your mind and consider that these ideas are not as outrageous as they might seem. By examining these subjects with a critical yet open-minded approach, we aim to spark thoughtful conversations and inspire a deeper understanding of the world around us. Join us on this journey as we broadcast seeds of wonder, inquiry, and possibility into the fertile ground of your imagination."
The show's subtitle -- Planting seeds in your mind -- signifies the goal of the show. Are these things real?
Mr. Tanton is an experienced indie podcaster, monetizing through ads, an excellent merch store, and he even gives away a free phone Bigfoot Wallpapers. His experience shows in his mastery of the soundscape he creates to bring sonic life to his creepy universe. I enjoy his opening music, which is a rap song that amps up the chilling milieu of the show.
Here's a review from late 2024 that I think encapsulates the show:
"What a great listen! The host has a nice podcasting voice and cadence.
Audio quality is good and elements are well-placed. Felt reminiscent of
Lore but more historically informative. I’m excited for future
episodes. One note to the producer— The ads are not placed correctly
(playing in the middle of a sentence instead of in between breaks)."
The show began in June 2024, and Mr. Tanton has amassed an impressive record for recording regularity. In less than 18 months, he produced and released over 140 episodes.
This is the show's ending: "If it planted a seed, you can quite shake, then do me a favor, keeping deep into the strange, the uncomfortable truths that live just beyond the firelight. Keep your eyes on the shadows and maybe, maybe, just listen to the howl."
I'm already under my weighted blanket, where, as everyone knows, cryptids cannot get at you!
As you may have guessed, Broadcasting Seeds has an X- Files feel to it. The "is it real, in your imagination, or we're just making it up" proto-reality makes the show a sugar rush for this genre.
Another fascinating episode is from July 1, with guest Harley Owens—the once-skeptic-turned-researcher behind Bigfoot Reports & Data.
Raised in the rugged mountains of East Tennessee, Harley started out hunting and working sawmills, but on September 23, 2020, he stumbled onto giant footprints that shifted his entire worldview. In this episode, Harley walked listeners through his dramatic transition from non-believer to believer after that first encounter; How he’s captured footprints, photos, and mysterious audio in the Appalachian wilds; The spine-tingling moment he crossed paths with both Sasquatch and Dogman—plus field tips for anyone chasing cryptids; His evolving research journey, community-building through Instagram, YouTube, TikTok & Facebook, and his mission to share data without judgment.
Broadcasting Seeds is an excellent independent podcast. Its genius is that it's not insisting that these unexplained phenomena are real. Instead, the show plants a seed of curiosity, inviting listeners to explore the possibility that what is often dismissed as fringe or fantastical might hold a kernel of truth.
