How To Do The Pot Podcast: Women Wiser about Weed

A podcast about cannabis that focuses on women's health issues.

A podcast about cannabis conjures up images of snack-filled relaxation and chill discussions of life as an existential concept. But How To Do The Pot, produced by award-winning Western Sound, an  LA-based production studio and Gina Delvac, is a new seasonal narrative podcast that answers some of the most common questions women secretly Google about cannabis.

The show aims to inform, educate and demystify cannabis. And after listening to the six episodes in season one which began in November 2019 and the "high Five" mini-episodes so far, which began in late March, the podcast delivers on its promise.

How To Do The Pot is for women (although it can be informational for men as well)  who are interested in the medical and recreational benefits of cannabis and are searching for evidence-based information to help them figure it all out.

April Pride and Ellen Scanlon launched How to Do the Pot in 2019 as A Modern Woman's Guide to Legal Cannabis.

The podcast probes questions about cannabis and women's health including:
What’s the real story with CBD?
Is weed cool when you’re pregnant?
Can I swap the pills for pot?
What do I do at a dispensary?
Can cannabis help with period pains?
In essence, the How to Do the Pot offers practical and tactical advice to help women navigate their personal journeys with cannabis.

Hosted by April Pride, the founder of Van der Pop, and produced with the minds behind Call Your Girlfriend and Dirty John, the first season followed the stories of modern women who consume cannabis, and shares expert medical opinions to explain why and how cannabis can positively impact topics including sleep, sex, pregnancy, migraines and endometriosis as well as taking a close look at social inequity and racial injustice in the cannabis industry.

In season one, podcast episodes averaged about 28 minutes but this latest stretch of mini-episodes called "High Five!" averages about eight minutes. These succinct, quick-hitters use the same episode naming nomenclature with such episodes as "5 Reasons Why Women are choosing Weed over Wine" or "5 Facts to Dose Edibles Correctly."

Recent guests include The Cut's Katie Heaney, Vanessa Lavorato - co-host of VICE's Bong Appetit, Hope Wiseman - the youngest black female dispensary owner, and Lizzie Post - etiquette expert and great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post.

"Marijuana legalization continues to spread to more states," says psychologist Ken Grayson, "A podcast such as How To Do The Pot can enable women to make informed decisions on cannabis usage and explain how responsible usage can offer positive health effects from better sleep to migraine relief."
