Spotify and VICE News will premiere the “Painkiller: America’s Fentanyl Crisis,” podcast On June 29

In 2019, the synthetic painkiller fentanyl killed more Americans than any other drug in modern history. It's 50-100 times more potent than heroin, easy to conceal, and almost odorless.it's been called a "smuggler's dream."

For all these reasons and more. Spotify and VICE News will premiere “Painkiller: America’s Fentanyl Crisis,” exclusively on Spotify. The podcast debuts on Monday, June 29.

You can check out the trailer HERE.

Hosted by Keegan Hamilton, Emmy-nominated Producer of VICE New Tonight and Host of Chapo: Kingpin on Trial podcast, the series features in-depth reporting as Keegan travels around the world tracking the chain of fentanyl from production to local communities; uncovering disparities between racial and socio-economic status; and bringing to light an epidemic rarely covered by mainstream media. You’ll hear from the convicts, the dealers, the victims and everyone in between.

fentanyl in poweder form
You can listen to all eight episodes of the Spotify podcast Painkiller at launch on June 29.

This podcast series follows the flow of fentanyl as it makes its way into the U.S. from illegal factories in China and Mexico, into the drug trade and onto the street. The podcast investigates the law enforcement attempts to stop fentanyl, and then goes deep into some of the biggest cases.

The podcast investigation team traces the toll fentanyl is taking on drug users and communities, complicating America’s broad and vexing addiction and recovery crisis.

Spotify and VICE News have collaborated before on Uncommitted: Iowa 2020, a podcast about the Iowa caucus, what Americans there were fighting for, and what they want our next president to fight for, and Chapo: Kingpin on Trial where Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman goes on trial and his high-stakes case is explored through the stories of people caught up in the drug war in the U.S. and Mexico.

There is hardly a household in America that hasn't been touched by the grim reaper of addiction and its deadly consequences.

On Monday, June 29, download Painkiller:America's Fentanyl Crisis and find out how addicts and their families have been ensnared in a nightmare scenario where money, opportunity and powerful interests too often prevail -- at the cost of so many lives.

And best of all, you can stream all 8 episodes in binge-mode.
