Latest Episode of Welcome To Your Fantasy: The FBI Is On The Case

The penultimate episode of Welcome to Your Fantasy is available now on Spotify. This week, host Natalia Petrzela is joined by one of the men who brought Steve Banerjee to justice - retired FBI special agent Scott Garriola.

Back in 1991, Garriola was just a few years into his FBI career when he was pulled into the wild case of Steve Banerjee along with an old school agent, Andrew Stefanak. The episode chronicles their years of investigation and an international undercover operation, with none other than the failed hired hitman from the last episode Ray Colon, that leads to Banerjee’s capture.

The episode, titled The Golden Goose, reveals a twist when a hired hitman flips on his boss, the FBI begins an investigation that turns into a years-long international manhunt. Can the lead investigator—a rookie agent who plays by his own rules—match wits with the paranoid strip kingpin who manages to evade capture at every turn?

Welcome to Your Fantasy chronicles one of the great, unexamined stories in American culture through the story of two men — an immigrant from India and a children’s TV producer from New Jersey — who transformed a seedy nightclub in Los Angeles into a global phenomenon, and how their paranoia and greed ultimately had lethal consequences.

WELCOME TO YOUR FANTASY is the story of how two men — an immigrant from India and a children’s TV producer from New Jersey — transformed a seedy nightclub in Los Angeles into a global phenomenon, and how paranoia and greed turned Chippendales into a hotbed for drugs, corruption, and murder.

Beyond the well-known cuffs and collars, cheesy dance routines, and unlimited supplies of body oil, the series examines the club’s role in the late 70s/early 80s rise of female sexuality, gender roles and masculinity, and the corruptible power of capitalism.

Podcast host and co-producer Natalia Mehlman Petrzela, Ph.D. is a historian of contemporary American politics and culture and is currently writing a book on American fitness culture, FIT NATION: How America Embraced Exercise As The Government Abandoned It.
