How's Work Podcast Focuses On May As Mental Health Awareness Month

Milestone months are sometimes dismissed as publicity events, but they really bring awareness to societal issues that are often neglected, or, more ominously, tolerated as "unsolvable."

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and that milestone raises awareness of the millions of Americans who fight the stigma of coping with mental illness.

That's why the Spotify podcast How’s Work? -- executive produced and hosted by well-known therapist and New York Times bestselling author Esther Perel -- is especially relevant for listeners.

How's Work

How’s Work? amplifies awareness around the timely and prevalent concern of mental health within the workplace – especially as a return to normal both inside and outside the home quickly approaches. In a past year that has seen the workplace dynamic dramatically shift, where we are no longer working from home but truly working with home, the series brings attention to our shared experiences, including the various, complex questions surrounding mental health at work.

In the April 20th episode, for example, Perel spoke with two models about their journey as teens within the modeling and fashion industry. Two women, rushed into adulthood as teens, reveal the dark reality behind the life of being a model, while Esther helps them unpack their emotions and how they were affected by their devotion to the craft.

The second season of the podcast, with new episodes debuting weekly on Spotify, focuses on the hard conversations we're afraid to have in our jobs: Colleagues navigating the new etiquette of a work from home workforce. A newsroom whose journalists feel that covering breaking news has broken them. A doctor who wants to walk away from his profession, during a pandemic. Lobbyists whose fight for racial equality ends up dividing them.
