Gimlet To Release Two "Ear Worthy" Fiction Podcasts -- Season 2 of Motherhacker and Red Frontier

Podcast fiction hasn't caught fire like the burning bush of true-crime podcasting, where listeners seem to have a bottomless pit of interest in real crimes.

However, podcast fiction dramas have painted their audio canvass with skillful brush strokes instead of the "splash the paint on the canvass and see what sticks" mad rush to release true-crime shows.

Gimlet / Spotify have taken a calibrated approach to podcast fiction. In June, they are releasing two fiction podcasts with high expectations for success.

First, the second season of Motherhacker, starring Carrie Coon, will premiere Monday, June 7. You may seen Coon in the third season of FX anthology series Fargo and HBO's The Leftovers

Motherhacker

In the scam-landscape of a pandemic, Bridget (Carrie Coon) gets caught in a crisis of loyalty between her hacker life, the FBI, and her own family.

The entire first season of Motherhacker can be exclusively on Spotify once the show is released.

The following week, Gimlet will release a new fiction podcast called Red Frontier, starring Betty Gilpin, will premiere Monday, June 14.

Gilpin is best known for her role as wrestler 'Liberty Belle' in the Netflix hit series Glow. Before that role, Gilpin played Dr. Carrie Roman in the Showtime drama TV series Nurse Jackie

Red Frontier

In the fiction podcast, Betty Gilpin plays Commander Taylor Fullerton, who is haunted by the mysterious tragedy that killed her crew as she alone endures their one-way mission to colonize Mars against all odds. Gilpin is joined by Finn Wittrock, Ashley Park, Charlie Barnett, Kara Young, and Maria Dizzia to fill out the cast.

Gimlet has produced high-quality, dramatic audio storytelling - including buzzy shows such as Homecoming (with Catherine Keener and David Schwimmer from Friends) and Sandra with Kristen Wiig. Gimlet's success so far can be attributed to skilled writing, a keen sense for narrative excellence, and the budget and courage to hire exceptional actors.
