New Podcast "Sunday Scaries" Explores Sunday Evening Work Jitters

HEADSPACE STUDIOS AND SPOTIFY JOIN FORCES ON A NEW EXCLUSIVE PODCAST SERIES

Sweaty palms. A dull throbbing directly over your eyeballs. A knot in our stomach. Your weekend "happy-go-lucky" attitude fades to be replaced by a sinking anxiety.

We've all suffered the realization that the workweek will begin tomorrow on Monday morning.

Now, thanks to Headspace Studios and Spotify, there's a podcast for that.

Headspace, the global leader in meditation and mindfulness, and Spotify have teamed up to launch Sunday Scaries by Headspace - named after a all-too-common feeling of anxiety that builds up on Sunday afternoons ahead of the impending week ahead.

Sunday Scaries

Hosted by Headspace’s popular Mindfulness & Meditation Teacher, Dora Kamau, the microcast series will provide 7-9 minute episodes to help ease listeners into the week ahead. These 12 episodes will be released on a weekly cadence starting August 29, 2021, exclusively on Spotify.

Headspace and Spotify have been working together since 2016, providing Spotify users access to the gift of meditation. Now, the partnership has evolved to developing content that helps support Spotify members globally in their wellness journey.

Each week, podcast host Dora Kamau will dive into the anxiety felt around starting the new week and address how listeners can better handle those thoughts and prepare for the week ahead. Dora Kamau is a registered psychiatric nurse, self-care and wellness artist who works alongside the Director of Meditation and Content Producers at Headspace to create in-app mindfulness content. Her presence resonates with Headspace members and her content has consistently been in high demand. Through this series, she will help listeners reframe anxiety by leading a variety of breathing exercises and providing mindfulness techniques and tactics that help combat worry and establish a positive outlook on the week ahead.

Science has proven that mindfulness can have a positive impact on health and be a great way to practice self-care, making these mini-meditations a great solution for combatting the stress and anxiety for the week ahead. Headspace provides unique tools and resources rooted in authentic expertise dating back 3,000+ years and backed by scientific research. In fact, Headspace research specifically shows 10 days of Headspace resulted in 14 percent decrease in stress.

“With the world slowly returning back to normal, there is heightened angst surrounding going back to the office or being back on campus. This is causing young professionals and students to experience ‘Sunday Scaries’ each week and while some have their own ways of preparing for the week ahead, many don’t know where to start,” said Dora Kamau. “This series serves as the perfect starting place for those looking for a way to address this feeling. We hope by the end of this series, listeners will change their relationship to the work week and be encouraged to meditate more often.”

“Through Headspace, we’ve noticed that Sunday afternoons can be a time of particularly heightened anxiety and fearfulness about the week ahead,” said Emma Nemtin, Director of Partnerships at Headspace. “This feeling has a name that we’re all familiar with - ‘Sunday Scaries.’ We’re aiming to meet students and working professionals where they are and integrate daily wellness into their lives, in an effort to help them prepare for the week ahead. We’re looking forward to further establishing this partnership and couldn’t imagine a better home for the show than on Spotify.”

Sunday Scaries by Headspace will be available for free, only on the Spotify platform. This new podcast is produced by Headspace’s Emma Nemtin, and Danny Carissimi and is executive produced by Leah Sutherland, Morgan Selzer and Sam Rogoway.

Now, repeat after me.
