Infamous Podcast Season Two Releases Two Episodes: The Murder Of YNW Melly's Best Friends

Complex in partnership with Spotify Studios, has announced the second season of their investigative music podcast, Infamous. This season, the podcast explores  YNW Melly’s life, music, and controversial charges the young Gifford, Florida rapper faces in court.

Hosted by Ace Hood, Infamous: The Story of YNW Melly, follows the murder of YNW Melly’s two best friends, Sakchaser (aka Anthony Williams, 21 years old), and Juvy (aka Christopher Thomas Jr., 19 years old) from the YNW collective. Melly quickly caught national attention for making raw, emotive rap songs about his turbulent life experiences. His melodic songs paint a vivid picture of a troubled upbringing and battles with mental health.

YNW Melly was a young rapper on his way to becoming a superstar. Then his two best friends were murdered, and he became the prime suspect. This season on 'Infamous,' we look at how this violent killing tore a group of best friends and a Florida town apart, and why YNW Melly was at the center of it. Hosted by Ace Hood.

Currently, YNW Melly (aka Jamell Demons) is incarcerated awaiting trial for his alleged participation in this crime.

The State of Florida charged him with two counts of first-degree murder, facing life imprisonment or the death penalty, if convicted. Breaking precedent, prosecutors are using lyrics from his breakout hit “Murder On My Mind,” against him as evidence in court. The song tells the fictional story of accidentally killing a friend, although it was released over a year before these charges took place.

Season two will feature eight episodes, with new episodes released every week.

Episodes 1 and 2 dropped Tuesday, September 28th.

The premiere features a two-episode drop:

Episode 1 entitled, "Little Old Gifford," introduces fans to YNW Melly's rapid rise to the top of the rap game and takes a close first look at the morning his two closest friends, YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser, were shot dead. Why is everyone trying to hide Melly's whereabouts on that day from the cops?

Episode 2 entitled, "We Viral," we hear from Melly's father about the rapper's troubled childhood and get the receipts from a deep dive into police reports. We also meet the other members of the YNW crew as they explore Melly's teenage years being "Facebook famous" and recount the school shooting that would set Melly on a path to go in and out of jail for years.

The intersection of popular music and true crime makes this podcast particularly "ear worthy."

Moreover, it's rare that a defendant is faced with potentially incriminating evidence from his own musical lyrics.
