In 2014, Jason Rezaian was a high-profile foreign correspondent covering one of the world’s toughest beats: Iran. He was covering President Obama’s nuclear deal, doing segments for Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain and translating a tricky culture for readers of the Washington Post. Then, he was suddenly captured, jailed and labeled a spy. He’d spend the next 544 days in jail, being interrogated, lied to and tortured.
Now, he’s here to tell his story as the host of “544 Days” with a wider awareness of how he became a geopolitical pawn involving American diplomacy, Donald Trump and plenty of secret Oval Office meetings.
The podcast debuts at a critical time, amid ongoing discussions and news headlines around the Iran nuclear deal.
Listeners will hear not only from Jason but also his wife, Yegi Rezaiain, who was also unjustly imprisoned, family members, co-workers, and key political figures, including Dennis McDonough (Obama chief of staff), John Kerry (former Secretary of State), Lisa Monaco (former homeland security advisor under Obama), and more.
