iHeartRadio & Sports Illustrated Media Launch “Sports Illustrated Weekly” Podcast

You have to hand it to Sports Illustrated. A premiere print magazine for decades until the magazine industry cratered a decade ago, Sports Illustrated has reinvented itself in the digital world.

Sports Illustrated Weekly

Exhibit number one in that resurgence is the recent iHeartRadio and Sports Illustrated Media announcement of an original podcast series focused on iconic names in the sports industry, “Sports Illustrated Weekly.” Hosted by John Gonzalez, a senior writer for Sports Illustrated and previous podcast host and writer at The Ringer, the weekly series takes sports fanatics through unforgettable moments, iconic interviews and the best stories in sports thus far.

Gonzalez will dive into the unforgettable moments in sports, including stories that take listeners behind the scenes of College Football’s madcap coaching carousel and into the underbelly of the soccer hooligan turned crime kingpin. This new podcast series offers listeners the same in-depth reporting that readers have loved about the iconic sports magazine, now in podcast form.

In episode one, fans can tune in to hear from some of the biggest names across sports. The episode will kick off with Howard Beck, who chats with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Steve Kerr, and Bob Meyers about how the Golden State Warriors are somehow in “win now” and “rebuild” modes at the same time. Then, Tom Brady sits down for a 1-on-1 interview with Jon Wertheim about how he’s changed over 20 seasons, while still playing his best football, and what the future holds. And finally, in a segment titled “Where Were They Then?,” former NFL Offensive Lineman Joe Thomas recalls the first time he was featured in Sports Illustrated.

The First episode available now with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.
