New Season Of Modern Love Podcast Debuts

When Huey Lewis and The News recorded and released the Billboard Top Ten hit record "The Power Of Love" in 1985, the group spoke truth to power. Consider what's happened to the Modern Love column in The New York Times. For 17 years, the newspaper column has given readers a glimpse into the complicated love lives of real people. Since its launch, the column has evolved into a TV show, several books and, of course, a podcast.

Hosted by Anna Martin, the critically acclaimed podcast, based on the weekly New York Times column, explores the complicated love lives of real people through conversation and storytelling.

The New York Times
debuted the new season of the podcast. Host Anna Martin, who will also produce the show, is an empathetic interviewer who appears to be a nice fit for the podcast. Each week, Martin brings listeners the most popular stories from the column, along with insightful conversations with the authors, and documentary segments exploring the complex world of love and relationships.

Column creator Daniel Jones and editor Miya Lee will remain engaged with the podcast, both on air and behind the scenes. “I’m so excited to have Anna come on board,” said Jones. “She has all the skills, smarts and heart to lead the “Modern Love” podcast into the future and to deliver on what the show has always done best: Make people feel things.”

The first episode of the new 10-episode season is out on February 9.

On the season premiere, we’re reminded that teen summers can be defined by their pop music soundtracks. In “What Lou Reed Taught Me About Love,” a young woman’s longing for a floppy-haired boy is magnified by the records they spin as part of their flirtation. Then we hear more people share the songs that taught them about love when they were teenagers, and the memories — funny, embarrassing, nostalgic — they carry with them throughout their lives.

New episodes drop every Wednesday afternoon.
