Second Season Of Youth Climate Podcast Inherited Releasing This Fall

Here's a question for climate change deniers. If there's no such thing as climate change, then why are there so many insightful podcasts about climate change sounding off about our precarious future?

One of those climate change podcasts is Inherited. This fall, narrative podcast network Critical Frequency is teaming up with YR Media (formerly Youth Radio), an incubator for emerging media makers, to release the second season of youth climate show Inherited.

Inherited is a critically acclaimed narrative podcast for, by, and about the youth climate movement, showcasing experiential, empathy-forward stories from within the movement and beyond. Created and produced by Georgia Wright and Jules Bradley, Inherited has been featured in The New York Times, New Scientist, the CBC, Gizmodo, Vulture, Outside Magazine, Grist, and more.

Inherited tells the stories of a generation of young people facing down the all-encompassing challenge of our time: climate change. The show, which debuted in 2020, has been lauded by The New York Times, which wrote of its first season: "With all the compassion and sensibilities of Generation Z, these well-told narrative episodes reveal the personal and mental-health sacrifices of some young activists, and will undoubtedly inspire you toward finding your own spheres of climate activism." On Earth Day 2021, Inherited was prominently featured on CBS This Morning with Gayle King.

The new partnership with YR Media will amplify the powerful, personal stories of young people grappling with the effects and injustices of climate change.

YR Media (formerly Youth Radio), is an award-winning leading media, technology and music training center and platform for emerging BIPOC content creators, who use their voices to change the world. Headquartered in downtown Oakland, California, the non-profit has invested almost 30 years in helping future generations build foundational skills in journalism and multimedia content creation. They produce journalism, music, graphic design, podcasts, and documentaries that disrupt and shape the mainstream narrative.

“We’re thrilled to partner with the legendary YR Media, whose experience supporting diverse networks of young creators will allow us to heighten our storytelling quality and expand our impact,” co-creator and senior producer Georgia Wright said of the partnership.

“A lot has changed in the last two years, both within the climate movement and Inherited, and this partnership between YR and Critical Frequency is pure synchronicity,” said co-creator and senior producer Jules Bradley, referencing the award-winning, women-run podcast network Critical Frequency.

Within the past year, Critical Frequency has partnered with Crooked Media for season two of This Land, with Earther for a mini-series of Drilled, with Stitcher for Unfinished: Short Creek, and with Scene on Radio for season five of The Repair. The company’s original climate talk show Hot Take was acquired by Crooked Media in early 2022.

“It is exciting to be in collaboration with Critical Frequency, as well as to join forces with a podcast that is quickly building a new legacy as a bold voice exploring the nuances of climate change from a Gen Z and increasingly BIPOC perspective,” said Kyra Kyles, CEO of YR Media. “These are voices we rarely, but should regularly, hear.”

“Partnering with YR and tapping into their legendary pipeline of young, diverse talent allows Inherited to become what it was always meant to be, a climate storytelling hub by and for the youth climate movement,” said Amy Westervelt, head of Critical Frequency. “I’m so excited for the great season this collaboration will produce!”

Critical Frequency is a women-run podcast network that combines rigorous journalism and inventive storytelling to create shows that delve into the complex issues facing society today, from climate to disinformation and democracy. Named AdWeek’s 2019 Podcast Network of the Year, Critical Frequency was founded in 2017 and has produced a total of 24 shows, including productions for Crooked Media and Stitcher’s Witness Docs.
