Adam Grant Has A New Podcast

Organizational psychologist Adam Grant has hosted the TED podcast Worklife for several years with considerable success. Grant is a successful author, speaker and keen observer of workplace dynamics.

Now, Grant wants to take listeners inside the minds of some of the world’s most unusual professionals to explore the science of making work not suck.

"From learning how to love criticism to harnessing the power of frustration, one thing’s for sure: You’ll never see your job the same way again," says Grant, about his new podcast, Re:Thinking

Grant promises that there will be lively discussion and debates, an exploration of new thoughts—and new ways of thinking.

His first guest is entrepreneur, Shark Tank investor, and NBA owner Mark Cuban. They discuss why you might be better off following your effort than your passion, when to bet on a person and an idea, his philosophy of disruption with Cost Plus Drugs, and the impact of narcissism on team chemistry and culture.

Given Grant's track record of success, you may think about giving Re:Thinking a listen.

Grant promises that in future weeks, he'll be exploring fear and goals with death-defying rock climber Alex Honnold, mission and burnout with surgeon and public health leader Atul Gawande, brain hemispheres with neuroscientist Chantel Prat, writing as a tool for thinking with novelist Celeste Ng, expanding your universe with Nobel laureate physicist Saul Perlmutter, reinventing yourself with Oscar winner and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon, and mastering a craft with cellist Yo-Yo Ma.

Danish Podcast Network To Expand

Podimo is a Denmark-based podcast and audiobook subscription service and announced that it has secured €58.6 million in funding. Founded in 2019, Podimo has more than 200 employees. The latest investment will go toward acquiring more shows and intellectual property, while also supporting expansion to new markets and possibly deals in the technology area.

Podimo sells subscriptions to its podcast platform and exclusive content in six European markets, as well as in Latin America, all in different languages for local listeners. It has signed deals with Disney, IHeartMedia Inc. Wondery and Warner Bros., and acquired a podcast company in the Netherlands, Dag en Nacht Media.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer Morten Strunge said in an interview. "Until now, Podimo has spent the majority of its money on programs. Demonstrating growth is not enough these days, you have to show sustainability in your business model and show you’ll someday be profitable.” Strunge said, adding the company expects to become profitable in the markets where it now operates, without additional capital.

Water & Weight Loss

In the most recent episode of Gimlet's Science Vs podcast, host Wendy Zukerman welcomed Hollie Raynor, who is a professor of nutrition at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. According to the professor, there have been quite a lot of studies testing whether water can help you lose weight. Like one study took almost 40 teenagers who were overweight or obese. Encouraged half of them to drink more water, which they said they did. And then followed them for six months At the end of the trial - the group drinking more water - didn't lose any more weight.

Raynor notes that food sits in your belly for a while – because it needs to get digested. But water? It just doesn't hang around the same way. It gets absorbed pretty fast.

"Water is more rapid than anything because there's nothing for the stomach to go like. Well, I got to break this down. Like, there's nothing to digest, really," Raynor says. "It's not like it just sits there for hours in your stomach. For example, if you drink two glasses of water - the majority will be out of your belly in 20 minutes. Solid food, takes several hours."
