Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, The Official Podcast Launched

Podcasts that follow TV shows have been around a long time in podcasting's short history. In 2013, Fox's Sleepy Hollow became a huge hit for the network, and what followed was a trail of podcasts that documented everything about the show. Show fans were termed "sleepyheads."

There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of Star Trek podcasts, covering every episode with a rhetorical microscope. The Bachelor, RuPaul's Drag Race, and The Walking Dead have been fertile ground for podcasts that follow these shows.

For fledging podcasters, developing a podcast that exhaustively covers a popular TV show offers you an instant listening audience. In that case, your competition is all the other podcasters trying to develop a similar show.

A re-watch podcast needs two vital ingredients. First, a dedicated fan base that maintains a long and torrid love affair with the show, its mythology, its characters, the actors, and the themes of the show. Second, it requires cast members or podcast pros who can host the re-watch show and resuscitate a TV show that only lives in reruns on streaming, broadcast and cable.

My personal favorite is The Psychologists Are In.

Thankfully, the USA Network TV show, Psych, incorporates all of those ingredients.

First, the show, which ran from 2006 until 2014 with three TV movies, has nurtured a large and loyal following called, appropriately, Psych-Os.

Second, the co-hosts of the re-watch podcast called, again appropriately, The Psychologists Are In, are primary actors from the show, Maggie Lawson (Detective Juliet "Jules" O'Hara) and Timothy Omundson (Head Detective Carlton "Lassie" Lassiter).

With all that preamble about re-watch podcasts, iHeartPodcasts and Shondaland Audio have launched Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, The Official Podcast, to coincide with the new Bridgerton prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Gabrielle Collins, host of the original “Bridgerton: The Official Podcast,” will now explore the cast and creative minds behind Queen Charlotte, dissecting each episode of Shondaland’s stellar prequel for devoted fans.

This series unveils the behind-the-scenes details of the epic love story with cast and crew, including writer and creator Shonda Rhimes, executive producer and series director Tom Verica, and actors India Amarteifio, Corey Mylchreest and Arsema Thomas. No detail goes unchecked as each episode unpacks the one-of-a-kind story for character deep-dives, hilarious tales of off-the-clock rendezvous and the creative processes that brought the show to life.

Shondaland Audio, iHeart's partner in this venture, describes itself this way: "Shondaland Audio is the home for entertaining, inclusive and informative podcasts. We aim to tell new stories and foster discussions that allow the audience to feel seen, no matter who they are. Comprised of both scripted and unscripted podcasts, the various series encourage our storytellers to bring their unique voice and perspective to a wide array of topics and conversations."

New episodes will be available on Thursdays. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, The Official Podcast

No news on whether the podcast can capture the inherent horniness of the show. Can you say steamy sex scenes five times in a row?
