Spotify Announces Eventual Trevor Noah Podcast While It Implodes

What's going on at Spotify? It's worse than Warner Discovery where CEO David Zaslav is firing and laying off employees, possibly gutting entire networks like TCM, cutting TV and film projects like Batgirl, and betting on the superhero movie The Flash to raise the flaccid stock price above $12 per share.

Zaslav would be happy if the stock price skyrocketed to about $100, even if Games Of Thrones reruns, and original episodes of Dr. Pimple Popper were the only two shows on his network.

Spotify must be then be infected with the same hallucinogenic. It canned Meghan Markle and Prince Harry with prejudice. It was a "don't let the door hit you in the ass" kind of exit. "Mean Girl" cruel, and toxic.

Spotify has also laid off employees, said sayonara to the Obamas, essentially executed its Gimlet and Parcast acquisitions, while it remained mute when its biggest star goes on an anti-vax, anti-5G, and anti-HIV rant with a guest who forgot his tin foil hat.

To make sure we have no idea what it is doing, Spotify has announced a new podcast with Trevor Noah, one of the most successful comedians in the world and a New York Times best-selling author.

According to Spotify, the weekly podcast will "blend Noah's signature humor and razor-sharp wit with his global perspective to deliver a unique take on the hottest and most captivating topics of the moment."

Launching later this year, the series will also feature in-depth and freewheeling conversations between Trevor Noah and some of the most influential and interesting figures around the world.

Trevor Noah says, "It’s really exciting to be joining Spotify on a fun new adventure where we’ll engage in interesting and meaningful conversations with some of the world’s most fascinating people. We’ll also probably fix every single issue humankind has ever faced, so you definitely want to join us for every episode."

Of course, Julie McNamara, the VP, Head of Global Podcast Studios for Spotify is excited: "Spotify is the ultimate audio destination, and partnering with Trevor Noah, one of the world’s most brilliant and distinctive voices, will make for captivating storytelling that will delight our more than 100 million podcast listeners around the world. We are excited to collaborate with Trevor to create an original podcast that seamlessly combines his unique humor, insightful commentary, and consummate interview skills on a global scale."

I like Trevor Noah. He had a tough job taking over for Jon Stewart on The Daily Show. I think Noah excelled on the show, slowly making it his own and adding his brand of humor to the show.

I think he will do well with his podcast.

But again, it'll be on Spotify.

I do not think the most gifted fortune-teller in the world could tell us what Spotify will do tomorrow. And that's because Spotify doesn't know. If I was Trevor Noah, I'd cash Spotify's check now.
