The Athletic Announces A New Daily Football (Soccer) Podcast

Whether it's called football or soccer, podcasting has a strong and deep stable of podcasts for the devoted football / soccer fan.

Covering soccer / football is no easy task. If you want to cover, for example, Major League Baseball, you cover the 30 teams in the U.S. and Canada. Same for the NFL and NBA. But soccer / football is worldwide. Even Russia and China have a league, although the penalty for a red card could be death.

There's no off-season for soccer / football. For instance, with the MLS in high gear in the middle of its season, the English Premiere League doesn't start until mid-August.

Of course, currently, the Women's World Cup is just getting underway, and already we have an upset with New Zealand beating Norway.

The Athletic has announced a new daily podcast for football fans around the world, offering insightful, expert reporting that allows listeners to stay on top of the biggest football stories each weekday.

With a runtime of just over ten minutes, “The Daily Football Briefing” is the first Athletic podcast designed specifically for a post-pandemic audience that commutes less and demands more. Using the most authoritative voices in football media, “The Daily Football Briefing” will swiftly tell you what happened last night, what’s happening now, and what’s going to happen tonight.

Whether you’re on dog walks, commuting to work, or preparing a meal, “The Daily Football Briefing” is essential listening powered by The Athletic’s global newsroom that brings you all the pressing talking points you need to know every weekday.

Iain Macintosh, audio managing editor at The Athletic, said, “The Athletic is home to some of the best football journalists in the world. Our reporters and editors are all over everything, and now listeners will be, too. We know how passionate football fans are, and this podcast is here to tell them what’s going on, why it’s going on, and what they can watch on the telly that evening.”

New episodes of “The Daily Football Briefing” will be released every weekday at 0300 B.S.T., ensuring that we’re in position and ready for you every morning, from Monday to Friday. It will be hosted on rotation by Michael Bailey, Tim Spiers, Adam Leventhal, and other talented Athletic voices.

Just to be clear, The Athletic will not be giving its listeners biscuits every day, like Ted Lasso did for AFC Richmond team owner Rebecca Welton.

Listeners can tune in wherever they get their podcasts.
