Have you ever met someone, say on line at Starbucks, waiting for your drink and a casual conversation ensues, usually about the weather or the wait for your drink? Then, without warning, the conversation shifts from casual to a stranger sharing their most intimate details of their life with you.
If so, you've been "audio-bombed" by an "Oversharer."
What if people could overshare in a controlled environment with a seasoned professional who can control the information flow so that chaos morphs into context?
Get ready for host, actor, author and former 'Hollyoaks' star, Gemma Atkinson who announced her brand-new podcast, The Overshare with Gemma Atkinson, which launched on Thursday 21st September 2023.
On British TV, Hollyoaks is a hugely popular British soap opera which began in 1995. Gemma Atkinson first gained national recognition as Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks.
With over 1.9 million followers on Instagram, Gemma Atkinson has built a loyal following and is known for her open, honest and often funny online content. Word on the street is that her new weekly podcast will be no different. The Overshare podcast will provide a safe space for her audience to share their stories and for Atkinson to also share hers.
Here's the marketing pitch: "This new podcast will feature some of the most jaw-dropping, tear-jerking stories you'll hear and some proper laugh-out-loud moments; from how useless your other half was during labor and first date howlers, to the biggest secrets you've uncovered and social media disasters. "
"Her audience will be trusting Gemma with their most intimate concerns. Gemma will also be sharing her own stories, including first date anecdotes, parenting home truths, and her experience with grief."
Gemma Atkinson says: "I’m so excited to finally launch The Overshare! I’ve been a guest on many podcasts, so to now host my own and have the opportunity to sit and chat with the listeners, it's been great. Real people with real stories, from the heartbreaking to the heartwarming. I know people will relate to the topics we’ve covered, and I can’t wait for you all to hear it."
Over the past few years, Gemma Atkinson has expanded her acting career, playing Carly Hope in ITV's Emmerdale from 2015 - 2017 and became one of the most popular characters on the ITV soap, which led to her first NTA nomination for Best Newcomer. From there, Atkinson landed Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 and has gone on to present for Steph's Packed Lunch and The Toddler Club and is the co-host on the Drivetime show on Hits Radio. Now, Atkinson and her partner Gorka, have just launched their new three-part series with W and UKTV, Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind The Lens.
I listened to the first episode and enjoyed it. For a celebrity, Atkinson is surprisingly humble and self-effacing. She has a disarming charm about her, and she connects nicely with her guests who "overshare." The first episode is about bodies and Atkinson chats with guests as if they're at a coffee or tea shop just catching up.
Atkinson has none of that annoying arrogance that Dr. Phil exhibits. There's also a cultural difference between Britain and the U.S., but Atkinson bridges that gap seamlessly.
Check out The Overshare.
