I've watched two seasons of Apple TV+'s The Morning Show. The show seamlessly blends thinly veiled real live events -- Matt Lauer and The Today Show -- and purely fictional shenanigans.
The usual criticism of these shows is that they overdramatize life, even with the devilish machinations of morning TV.
Then, in late 2022, a scandal broke that made The Morning Show seem tame. Good Morning America reporters T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach were outed as being in a romantic relationship. Both were married with children. Both reporters were ultimately fired and have kept a low profile until now.
In the spirit of reputational resurrection, Amy Robach and T. J. Holmes announced that they
have teamed up with iHeartMedia for a podcast titled
“Amy & T.J.”
The podcast is set to premiere December 5
on the iHeartPodcast Network. In addition to hosting and executive producing
their own podcast, Robach and Holmes will also collaborate on a full slate of
upcoming programming for iHeartPodcasts.
Here's the marketing promotion from iHeart: "Hosts and executive producers Robach and Holmes are a formidable broadcasting team with decades of experience delivering headline news and captivating viewers nationwide. Now, the duo will get behind the microphone to explore meaningful conversations about current events, pop culture, and everything in between. Nothing is off limits. “Amy & T.J.” is guaranteed to be informative, entertaining, and above all, authentic; it will mark the first time Robach and Holmes speak publicly since their own names became a part of the headlines."
I find the part about nothing "off-limits" as intriguing. We'll see what happens with their podcast. To be fair, I enjoyed both reporters on GMA. They were funny, incisive, and solid reporters. Let's hear what they come up with in December.
