Three Celebrity Podcasts: Naomi Osaka; Johnny Knoxville; Jay Glazer

When existing health organizations collaborate with celebrities, then people pay attention. In effect, the celebrity's fans get converted into podcast listeners. That's what's happening here, and it just so happens that the celebrity athlete and the health organization make an excellent fit.

Modern Health, which is a leading global workplace mental health platform, and Naomi Osaka’s Emmy Award-nominated media company, Hana Kuma, have announced the release of their podcast video series, Can’t Wait To Hear From You.

The series delves deep into the psyche of high-performing individuals, exploring their daily connection with their inner voice, pivotal moments that shaped their self-expression, and the effective mental care strategies they employ to nurture their identity
. Can’t Wait to Hear From You features two rotating hosts New York Times bestselling author Luvvie Ajayi Jones as well as renowned YouTube influencer Franny Arrieta.

“I am so excited to be officially launching Can’t Wait to Hear from You,” said Naomi Osaka. “It’s such an impactful series where we openly talk about mental health. Since speaking out about my own experiences, I’ve felt so much empowerment in my vulnerability and I’ve received so much love and support from my close circle, my fans, and Modern Health. I want others to feel the same and I hope this video podcast series will encourage them to have open discussions and feel less shame.”

“Mental health as a topic has always faced stigma, and that is something we are on a mission to change,”  said Alyson Watson, founder & CEO of Modern Health. “By showcasing vulnerable and intimate conversations with high-profile business leaders, sports personalities, actors, and activists, we aim to normalize this topic and underscore the power of aligning your inner voice with your personal purpose.”

The series premiered on Thursday, March 28 at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET  on Hana Kuma’s YouTube channel, with the first guest entrepreneur, author, and former Chief Marketing Officer at Netflix, Bozoma Saint John.

Additional upcoming guests include actor and activist Kendrick Sampson; eight-time All-American and distinguished four-time member of the USA Gymnastics Junior National Team Katelyn Ohashi; founder and CEO of lifestyle brand Market Mike Cherman; entrepreneur and founder of Lyons Wines Chris Lyons; in addition to a special edition episode hosted by Osaka featuring the United States Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy.

This series serves as a continuation of Modern Health’s partnership with Osaka. The company has launched a series of children’s meditations, developed and narrated by the tennis champion, covering important topics, including how to conquer overwhelming feelings and apply skills like self-compassion. Osaka was also featured in Modern Health’s first-ever Family Huddle series, designed to empower families and caregivers to discuss strategies for building positive mental health habits.

SmartLess Media has announced its next original podcast, Pretty Sure I Can Fly. SmartLess Media is a joint venture between Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, and Sean Hayes. Off the success of their mega-hit podcast, SmartLess, the trio founded SmartLess Media to branch out and create more comedy content – for the podcast space and beyond.

Pretty Sure I Can Fly
, hosted by Johnny Knoxville and Elna Baker, explores and celebrates the remarkable and slightly unhinged people who have pushed history forward and redefined the limits of human potential.

Listen to the Pretty Sure I Can Fly trailer here:

“Nothing makes me happier than reading about some wonderful nut who has achieved an extraordinary feat under impossible conditions while everyone is telling them it couldn't or shouldn’t be done,” said Knoxville. “I find their stories endlessly inspiring and now, with this podcast, Elna and I will get to pick their courageous brains and see why they do what they do. Why in the hell would someone want to surf a 100 foot wave or battle -56 degree temperatures and polar bears for weeks trying to reach the geographic North Pole? I mean sheesh am I the only sane one here?”
“It takes a particular kind of fucked upness, or blind positivity or just being off your rocker to do the things our guests have done,” said Baker.

“When you have an opportunity to create a podcast with Johnny Knoxville and Elna Baker, you say yes,” said SmartLess Media President Richard Korson.

Pretty Sure I Can Fly guests will include Travis Pastrana (professional motorsports competitor and stunt performer), Garrett McNamara (professional big wave surfer, Amplify Pictures’ 100 Foot Wave broadcast on HBO), Dudley Stokes (legendary Jamaican bobsledder), Ann Daniels (polar explorer), Tori Murden (first woman and the first American to row solo across the Atlantic Ocean) and more.

PRETTY SURE I CAN FLY Premiere date: April 8 on Amazon Music/Wondery+, April 15 on all podcast services

What can we expect? Based on the guests, this show should be a massive upgrade from Jackass. I mean, how many times can you punch a guy in the balls and get a laugh? Apparently, a lot of times.

Another excellent podcast about mental health,“Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental WEALTH Podcast” is an extension of Jay Glazer’s widely-acclaimed, best-selling book “Unbreakable.” The podcast features Fox NFL Insider Jay Glazer as he shares his personal mental health journey with the audience, including the tools and techniques he’s developed to “live in the gray” – his term for living and thriving with anxiety, depression and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Welcoming mental health experts, athletes, coaches, celebrities and others, Glazer and his special guests share personal stories of overcoming adversity, the tools they use to incur MENTAL WEALTH, and their paths to success to help motivate, uplift and inspire listeners, and help set them up to win. New episodes are posted on Wednesdays, with frequent check-ins where Glazer updates listeners as he navigates the path to mental wellness.

If you're not a sports fan, Jay Glazer, national television personality, Fox NFL Insider, best-selling author and host of “Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental WEALTH Podcast,” set up the first-ever, in-person reunion between former Iraq War POW Shoshana Johnson and her rescuer, U.S. Marine Curney Russell.

Retired U.S. Army Specialist Johnson, the first U.S. black female prisoner of war, was among the members of the Army’s 507th Maintenance Company from Fort Bliss who were captured in Nasiriyah, Iraq, on March 23, 2003, and held for 22 days. Russell was part of the U.S. Marine squad who rescued Johnson and six other American soldiers who were held hostage.

Johnson and Russell have not seen each other in person since the rescue operation in 2003. Glazer, who previously interviewed Johnson and Russell for his “Unbreakable” podcast, made a promise to get them in the same room so they could see each other once again.  With this past Saturday marking the 21st anniversary of Johnson’s capture, she and Russell were invited to Glazer’s home for a special reunion.

“These are two of the most amazing, courageous, inspirational people I’ve ever met, and I made a promise during our first podcast to reunite them,” said Glazer. “This was about keeping my promise, but it turned into something even more beautiful. Seeing them connect after all these years was incredible. Plus, two other members of their unit came to surprise Shoshana. It was an absolutely magical reunion!”

Watch the reunion HERE. Johnson and Russell are also featured on last week’s episode of “Unbreakable with Jay Glazer: A Mental WEALTH Podcast” for a follow-up conversation to their interview last November.

Johnson and Russell’s “Unbreakable” interview is available now on iHeartRadio and everywhere podcasts are heard.  Listen HERE.
