That's Just Wild Podcast: Adventure, Awe, And Wild Animal Facts To Life

Natural world podcasts are not as numerous as other genres, mainly because of the video component. NatGeo's Overheard podcast is an example of one of the best in the genre. There's a new U.K. podcast that takes listeners on an exciting journey into the natural world.

Listeners can take a walk on the wild side as adventurer and naturalist Steve Backshall, wildlife biologist Lizzie Daly, and environmental journalist Sarah Roberts explore jaw-dropping real-life stories from the natural world in a new podcast called That's Just Wild.

Each week, the hosts share their extensive knowledge of the animal kingdom, gathered through their superlative first-hand stories—from surviving in the Arctic to diving the bluest seas—offering an irresistible sense of wonder.

Launched on June 3rd here, the twice-weekly podcast will be available on all major podcast platforms, plus YouTube and TikTok,for snackable moments from the wild.

There will be a main episode each Tuesday, and then on Fridays, it’s over to the listeners, who send in their nature and wildlife questions to be answered by the knowledgeable hosts for a Q&A episode.

That’s Just Wild is the brand-new podcast from award-winning audio producers Fresh Air, designed as the perfect twice-weekly escape for anyone who dreams of adventure.

Fresh Air is a leading podcast production company for brands and businesses in the UK. Find out more at www.freshairproduction.co.uk.

Hosted by a distinguished team of nature experts—BAFTA-winning adventurer and naturalist Steve Backshall, wildlife biologist and conservationist Lizzie Daly, and author and environmental journalist Sarah Roberts—the podcast celebrates the raw power and sheer absurdity of the natural world. It is first-hand storytelling and packed with awe, laughs, and discovery.

Each episode dives into animal encounters, edge-of-your-seat survival stories, and the weirdest, wildest facts from the natural world. Alongside these wild tales, each week also features a Q&A episode where Steve, Lizzie, and Sarah tackle the questions you've always wanted to ask—no matter how strange or surprising—about nature, wildlife, and everything in between.

The first episode is called ‘Freezing,’ and Steve Backshall is just back from an Arctic expedition. There are stories about trying to dive when it’s freezing, how animals adapt to the cold, and walruses chiming. The week’s Q&A episode answers listener questions like: Are octopuses actually aliens? Do sharks have friends? How do elephants communicate across vast distances? And should zoos still exist?

Speaking on the announcement, Steve Backshall says: “This is the podcast I’ve always wanted to make – wild stories from the front lines of nature, told with honesty, humour, and the occasional scar. We’ve all got so much love for the natural world, and That’s Just Wild is about sharing that passion in the most fun and fearless way possible.”

Steve Backshall is a BAFTA award-winning wildlife expert who inspires people of all ages with his enthusiasm for the natural world and his love of challenge and adventure. Steve has been on our screens for over 25 years and has presented hundreds of hours of the very best wildlife and adventure TV programs.

The latest series of his much-loved show Deadly 60 (CBBC) will air in September 2025, continuing Steve’s mission to track down the world’s deadliest wildlife. The Deadly franchise has included Deadly 60 series 1 - 5, Deadly Pole to Pole, Deadly Mission Shark, Live and Deadly, Deadly 360, Deadly on a Mission, Deadly Predators, Deadly Dinosaurs, and Backshall’s Deadly Adventures.

Lizzie Daly says: “Imagine wildlife, science and funny stories from expeditions in the field, all mixed into a funny & raw conversation... That's this podcast. I love bringing science to life & this is the perfect space to do that in an exciting and engaging way. The best part? We are bringing our listeners along with us every single week.”

Sarah Roberts adds: “Our curiosity about animals and the planet is a part of our core. After all, we’re just slightly clever, mostly hairless apes with a long history of storytelling. That’s what makes this show so exciting, though. It taps into that ancient instinct to share mind-blowing knowledge, narrow escapes, and wild encounters that reconnect us with each other and with the natural world. And right now, we need that connection more than ever. The laughs are an extra bonus.”

Neil Cowling, Founder of Fresh Air, says: “That’s Just Wild is exactly what podcasting should be – smart, surprising, and wildly entertaining. We’ve created a podcast that offers a positive, energetic lens on the wonders of the planet, channelling our natural fascination with wildlife, inspiring audiences to reconnect with the wild world around them.”

Whether you’re a wildlife nerd or just someone looking for a fun escape, That’s Just Wild is your new go-to for stories that make you gasp, laugh, and fall in love with nature and wildlife all over again.
