Oceanography Podcast: Diving Deep About Our Oceans

It came as a surprise to me when I was offered an advance listen to the new podcast about our oceans, considering how few podcasts actually cover our oceans, which make up 75 percent of the Earth's surface.

I enjoyed the first two episodes because the host oozed sincerity and captured the curiosity we all have about our oceans.

The Oceanography podcast was released on July 29th by Pine Forest Media, a production company dedicated to stories at the intersection of science, environment, and society.

Oceanography will focus on the latest research and conservation efforts to protect our oceans
through weekly conversations with marine biologists, oceanographers, and climate scientists from around the world.

Oceanography is hosted by Clark Marchese, a science communicator and podcast producer, who expertly weaves together rigorous science journalism and compelling storytelling.

Marchese draws from his background in environmental studies, international politics, and media to spotlights not just science, but the activism, policy, and leaders shaping our understanding of the ocean and our responsibility to it.

As the future of funding for oceans, conservation, and science becomes increasingly at risk, sharing stories and science from has never been more essential. Because science doesn’t exist in a vacuum, the show makes space for the politics, policies, and activism shaping the future of our oceans - from global treaties to local grassroots action.

“There are a lot of threats facing our oceans. But this podcast isn’t about problems. Oceanography sets out to engage with the scientists working to meet these challenges, to explore the wonders beneath the surface worth protecting, and to understand why healthy oceans matter - not just for marine life, but for all of us too.”

Upcoming episode topics include:
● Exploring how sound travels underwater and how whales communicate,
● Diving into fishing gear designed to protect endangered species,
● Learning about the magic of bioluminescent sharks,
● Unpacking deep-sea ecosystems.
Plus, conversations with the Deputy Global Coordinator of the UN Decade for Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, and the climate specialist and tribal liaison at the Marine Protected Area Collaborative Network (of California).

Oceanography is a marine science podcast about the research happening beneath the surface. This podcast is where your favorite 101 science class meets environmental journalism, with weekly conversations featuring marine biologists, oceanographers, and climate scientists from around the world.

It's learning more about our oceans than visiting
SpongeBob SquarePants, who, as we all know, lives in a pineapple house located at 124 Conch Street in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom.

As host Marchese observes, "One week, we’re exploring how whales communicate or how sound travels underwater; the next, we’re diving into fishing gear designed to protect endangered species. We cover ocean conservation, deep-sea ecosystems, microplastic pollution, and the surprising ways marine life is connected to life on land."

If you’re curious about the ocean and want to hear from the people uncovering its secrets and fighting to protect them, you’re in the right place. Check out the Oceanography podcast.
