There are plenty of parenting podcasts out there. Modern Dadhood by Adam Flaherty and Marc Checket is one of the best. Here's a new one by a media company with a thriving children's book business, and an established show that has been acquired by a small network.
A Kids Co., the acclaimed media company and creator of the bestselling A Kids Book About series, launched its flagship parenting podcast for grown-ups. Raising Us, hosted by Elise Hu, journalist, author and podcast host best known for hosting TED Talks Daily and Forever 35. The show released its first episode on September 9th.
Raising Us follows the rhythms of the school year with episodes timed to seasonal moments, historic anniversaries, and current events. The show blends expert-backed insights with real, lived experiences featuring trusted doctors, educators and purpose-driven public figures who bring meaningful stories and perspectives to every episode.
Founder and author of A Kids Book About Racism, Jelani Memory said, “From day one, our mission has been rooted in trust, trusting kids to ask big questions, and trusting grownups to show up with real answers. That’s what Raising Us is all about.” Alongside the show, A Kids Co. will offer curated reading lists from its bestselling A Kids Book About series, downloadable Conversation Starter Kits, and other family-friendly tools to help listeners turn every episode into action at home.
Elise Hu is a Los-Angeles based journalist, podcast host and author who spent more than a decade at NPR, as a correspondent and host, and worked as a television correspondent for VICE News Tonight. Today, she’s the host of TED Talks Daily, one of the world’s most listened-to podcasts, and a co-host of Forever35, a women’s focused show about the ways we take care of ourselves. As an international correspondent, she reported from more than a dozen countries and opened NPR’s first-ever Seoul bureau in 2015.
Her experiences in Seoul inspired her debut non-fiction book, Flawless: Lessons in Looks and Culture from the K-Beauty Capital. Prior to NPR, Elise helped found the nonprofit digital startup, The Texas Tribune, and spent more than a decade as a television news reporter. Her work has won the national Edward R. Murrow, Gracie, Webby and duPont Columbia awards, among others. She’s an alum of the University of Missouri-Columbia’s Journalism school, the co-founder of the podcast production company Reasonable Volume, and a mom of three daughters.
Raising Us used its first episode to focus on fatphobia and body image featuring model and activist Tess Holliday and journalist Virginia Sole-Smith. Upcoming episodes will explore timely, complex topics like neurodiversity, puberty, and democracy, with guests including actor and author Lake Bell, pediatrician and advocate Dr. Cara Natterson, and educator and author Sharon McMahon. You’ll also hear from other voices like W. Kamau Bell, Negin Farsad, Baratunde Thurston and Jason Reynolds.
Raising Us gives grown-ups the tools to learn, reflect, and then lead meaningful conversations with kids. Because understanding the world is the first step to helping kids make sense of it, too. As Elise Hu puts it, “Every time we show up for our children, we’re not just raising thoughtful kids, we’re raising us too.”
This season of Raising Us is sponsored by Nugget, a kids’ play furniture brand known for sparking creativity and imaginative play. As a company committed to growing imaginations, Nugget shares A Kids Co.’s mission to support grown-ups in raising empowered, curious kids.
If you're searching for a helpful parenting podcast, Raising Us could fit your needs.
