Science Fiction is a genre of literature, movies, TV, and podcasts that has deepened and clarified over the decades. That's why I like the title The BIG Sci-Fi Podcast: it tells listeners all types of science fiction.
The BIG Sci-Fi Podcast is a popular, fan-focused show within the Trek Geeks Network that dives deep into science fiction across film, television, and literature. Hosted by Adeena, Brian, Chris, and Steve, it offers lively, in-depth discussions on classic and modern sci-fi, with a particular love for Star Trek.
The show features a panel including Adeena (Atlanta), Brian (Ohio), Chris (Toronto), and Steve (North Hollywood). With that many co-hosts, the audio version can be tough to decipher who's talking. The YouTube version offers listeners short-form videos that can put a name and face to a voice.
Episodes cover a wide range of science fiction topics, including in-depth discussions on films like Colossus: The Forbin Project, Enemy Mine, and Star Trek films.
Network: It is part of the Trek Geeks Podcast Network, which also produces Star Trek-focused content. The podcast has over 160 episodes. The show begins with bouncy, big-band, brassy music and explains that it is the "biggest sci-fi podcast in the galaxy!"
The Trek Geeks Network is a premier, fan-focused podcast network dedicated to all things Star Trek, founded in 2015 by Bill Smith and Dan Davidson. Featuring the flagship Trek Geeks: A Star Trek Podcast, the network offers in-depth, positive, and often humorous discussions on the franchise's past, present, and future, including interviews with cast and crew The network promotes a positive, welcoming environment for fans, notably through its official Facebook group, "Camp Khitomer. It is often referred to as "the biggest little show this side of the Alpha Quadrant."
In December 2025, the season nine finale finished with a bang, welcoming Rod Roddenberry, who is the son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. The co-hosts discussed the current state of Trek, where we've been, and where Trek should go. Roddenberry was an engaging guest with sharp insights into the Star Trek universe.
One of my favorite episodes was about the 1981 sci-fi film Outland starring Sean Connery. In the show, Steve starts off by asking the other two co-hosts (Chris couldn't make it) when they last watched Outland. Both co-hosts answered, "Two days ago." Steve is correct that Outland, which was not a critical success, has become a cult hit. The remainder of the episode is an entertaining event, where it's obvious that Adeena couldn't even get through the entire film, and Brian thought the film's Jerry Goldsmith score was the most notable part.
A recent episode about Starfleet Academy, the Paramount Plus show that just got canceled after its second season, took listeners down a fascinating rabbit hole about the entire franchise of Star Trek TV shows and fans' initial reaction to the shows.
Even with four people talking, these co-hosts have had plenty of practice managing their interaction and the show's topics. It helps that all four co-hosts are insightful, knowledgeable, thoughtful, and engaging on the show. There's no forced humor. It seems to be organic. And there are no fake controversies to spice up the show.
For people who attend, or wish to attend, Comic-Con, this show is a perfect addition to their sci-fi portfolio. The BIG Sci-Fi Podcast covers a wide range of sci-fi topics, including Adeena taking the Star Trek Cruise! The show wanders around science fiction, setting its sights on lesser-known but noteworthy projects such as the 1970s Colossus: The Forbin Project film and Farscape, the TV series. They're both personal favorites and not often discussed, so kudos to this team.
The show also includes more than actors from Sci-fi projects, such as composers, writers, directors, producers, and even science consultants.
If you are a science-fiction fan, then there are two essential podcasts for you -- The BIG Sci-Fi Podcast and Every Single Sci-Fi Film Ever.
The co-hosts possess other talents, in addition to podcasting. For example, check out Brian's new book, available on Amazon in Kindle and paperback. Subscribe for free to Brian's Substack page, where he writes original science fiction and fantasy. Listen to Brian's music, including his new compilation album "My Story." Find Adeena's books here.
