There is a presumption of guilt when it comes to movies we can't remember. That presumption is that those forgotten films are bad. In fact, so bad that our brains have wiped our memories of those images and sounds. I don't believe that. Many film gems have been forgotten, neglected, or overlooked. Todd Liebenow agrees.
The Forgotten Filmcast, hosted by Todd Liebenow, is a biweekly podcast that reviews "movies that time forgot," focusing on overlooked, obscure, or underappreciated films from the silent era to the early 1990s. Each episode features a guest blogger or podcaster discussing a specific film's merits, trivia, and why it deserves a second look.
On each
episode, creator/host Todd Liebenow is joined by another film blogger or
podcaster to discuss a film that has fallen off the radar.
Liebenow says: "We've
covered films from the silent era all the way up to the early 90s"
Todd Liebenow (also of the Forgotten Films blog) focuses on movies that faded from popular memory, were overshadowed at the box office, or didn't catch on initially. His conversations with film critics, bloggers, and podcasters.
covers a wide range of genres, including classic, cult, and 80s/90s gems.
One of my favorite episodes (I love this movie) is the show where Liebenow says: "We're taking a look at a 1976 film from writer/director Nicholas Meyer that gives us a different take on Sherlock Holmes. The great detective meets up with Sigmund Freud in The Seven-Per-Cent Solution. Richard Kirkham, host of the LAMBcast joins us for our discussion, as well as some movie recommendations and a trivia game."
In another terrific show on an underrated film, Liebenow says: "On this week's episode, we journey back to the pre-code era for 1933's The Little Giant, starring Edward G. Robinson. Matthew Simpson from Awesome Friday joins us to discuss this film that looks like a 30s crime film, but actually turns into a romantic comedy. We've also got some movie recommendations and a trivia game inspired by other 'little' movies."
When discussing the 1987 film Suspect, Liebenow explains: "On this week's episode we look at a 1987 film featuring an actress who was on the verge of winning an Oscar just a few months later. Cher won her Oscar for Moonstruck, but just a few months before that film was released, she starred in the courtroom drama Suspect. The film also features Dennis Quaid and Liam Neeson. MovieRob from the MovieRob Minute returns to the show to discuss this film. In addition to our main discussion, we also have a trivia game and our movie recommendations."
Creator/Host Todd Liebenow was a co-host on The Silverado Minute Podcast in 2022 and was in MovieRob Minute in 2021.
Mr. Liebenow is comfortable with sound design because he manipulates it so well with clips from the movies he covers, Foley artist-type sounds, and his nice, jazzy intro music.
Mr. Liebenow's hosting style is understated and easygoing, yet his knowledge of these films is impressive. He's comfortable with guests and makes them comfortable.
The Forgotten Filmcast will be a wonderful resource for passionate movie fans. I mean, those fans on multiple Subreddits about films. So, if you qualify, and watch TCM all the time, check out this podcast.
