The Celebrity Docket: Bringing Legal Analysis To Celebrity News & Pop Culture

 It's unfortunate that we typically interact with lawyers as we drive on highways and see their billboards marketing their services in case you were in an accident. 

Not all lawyers can be Harvey Spector from Suits. Luckily for fans of the law, pop culture, and entertainment, there's The Celebrity Docket podcast. 

Hosted by Forbes-Featured Attorney Jehan “J” Carter and Newly Licensed Attorney & Netflix Star Marissa George Johnson, The Celebrity Docket Brings Legal Expertise to Entertainment Headlines. 

Here's the show's marketing pitch: "The Celebrity Docket delivers timely, engaging, and accessible legal analysis of the biggest celebrity legal stories making headlines while also featuring celebrity guests, entertainment industry professionals, influencers, athletes, and thought leaders.

“This show was created to bridge the gap between law and pop culture,” said Jehan 'J' Carter. “Millions of people follow celebrity legal stories every day, but very few outlets provide analysis from lawyers who can explain what is actually happening behind the headlines. We wanted to create a platform that is educational, entertaining, and culturally relevant.”

Carter is a Forbes-featured attorney and recipient of the National Bar Association’s Top 40 Under 40 recognition. Throughout her career, she has advised entrepreneurs, creators, executives, entertainers, and business leaders while building a reputation as a respected voice in law, media, and business.

Joining her is Marissa George Johnson, who became widely recognized through her appearances on Netflix’s hit reality series Love Is Blind and Perfect Match. Beyond reality television, Johnson recently achieved another major milestone by becoming a licensed attorney after narrowly missing a passing score on her first bar examination attempt by just one point.

Rather than giving up, Johnson persevered and successfully passed the bar, becoming a powerful example of resilience, determination, and professional excellence.

“My legal journey taught me that setbacks do not define your future,” said Johnson. “I hope my story inspires others to keep going, especially when they are closer to success than they realize.”
This inspiring story should even inspire the likes of Kim Kardashian who is still pursuing becoming a licensed attorney!

The launch of The Celebrity Docket also represents an important milestone for diversity within both the legal and entertainment industries. Carter and Johnson originally started the show as a limited news segment for Fox 5 DC. After the success of the news segment they decided to expand the show.

According to recent legal industry data with the American Bar Association, women comprise less than 42% of practicing attorneys in the United States, while Black women account for fewer than 2.5% of all lawyers nationwide. The creation of a nationally distributed legal entertainment show hosted by two female attorneys—both of whom are Black women attorneys—marks a significant achievement in expanding representation within media, law, and entertainment commentary.

National Black Business Month is an annual observance celebrated every August in the United States to recognize, support, and appreciate Black-owned enterprises. It highlights the critical contributions these businesses make to the U.S. economy and brings attention to the systemic challenges, such as limited access to capital, that Black entrepreneurs continue to face. 

 August was chosen because it marks the birth month of prominent abolitionist and author Frederick Douglass, who is widely considered one of the pioneers of Black business in America. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are approximately 3.12 million Black-owned businesses in the U.S., which generate over $200 billion in annual revenue and employ millions of Americans. Despite making up about 14% of the U.S. population, Black-owned small businesses represent roughly 3% to 10% of all classifiable firms, underscoring the need for targeted support.

 The Celebrity Docket is available in both video and audio formats and can be streamed on major podcast and media platforms with their first two episodes streaming now “The Real Housewives of Fraud” (Ep. 1) and “Supersized Hot topics” (Ep. 2). The show features them making the case on each side of your favorite celebrity legal stories, interviewing your favorite celebrity guests “on the stand” and turning it to YOU the jury to weigh in with the final verdict!
