Illuminate Podcast Conference

The Illuminate Conference, held at Houston’s Health Museum, brought together independent podcasters and content creators for a supportive event emphasizing innovation. Co-hosted by Britney Alston and Freddy Cruz, the gathering aimed to transform solo remote endeavors into strategic businesses. Speakers discussed topics including podcast advertising strategies with Vanessa Oler and preventing burnout with Jennifer Bassman. Dr. Trevor Boffone shared social media viral strategies, while Dan Peterson and Kami Huyse addressed artificial intelligence. Other presentations covered on-camera confidence, wellness, and publishing books.
Unlike other conferences, Illuminate brought together content creators from related endeavors. For example, podcasters and social media creators often overlap and have similar goals. With the rise of video podcasting, having experts on camera confidence and body image felt like a natural fit. Even the addition of entertainment marketing made sense with singer Cristina Amaro and DJ, social media creator, and one of the most upbeat people I’ve ever met, Kalum Johnson, otherwise known as K-Dog!.
Last month, Podcast Movement held one of the year's largest podcast conferences in New York City. The speakers were the podcasting elite, as were some of the attendees. Wisdom was shared, and insights were passed out like pigs in a blanket at an appetizer hour.
Contrast that with the Illuminate conference. The names weren’t nationally famous; the number of attendees didn’t reach the many hundreds, and podcast creators co-mingled with creators from social media, entertainment, publishing, and wellness.
Yet the conference has that sense of intimacy and camaraderie typically absent from these massive affairs. Freddy Cruz even brought in a brand-new employee, Katie Tindall, a University of Houston grad with a strategic communication degree (focus in PR) and a minor in marketing. With people from ages 10 to 70 and experience in a variety of careers, Katie was welcomed and became part of the Illuminate tribe.
Petty Cases

What’s This Podcast About: Petty Cases’ premise is simple: put ridiculous arguments on trial and let comedians decide who’s right. In each episode, Willie and Steve preside over absurd, low-stakes disputes that would never make it anywhere near a real courtroom, but are somehow important enough to ruin a friendship, relationship, roommate situation, or group chat. Comics joining the duo in the courtroom include Bert Kreischer, Ron Funches, Morgan Jay, Frankie Quiñones, Craig Conant, Steph Tolev, Caitlin Peluffo, Shapel Lacey, Asif Ali, and Fiona Cauley, with additional guests to be announced.
Who Will Enjoy This Podcast: Fans of comedy and this absurdist, reality-TV show type of format.
Creator/Host: Almost Friday Media, with hosts Willie Simon and Steve Furey
What I love about the show: It’s comedy with a concept. It’s Reality TV adjacent.
Recommended Episode to start listening with: Start with their very first show to capture the show's insane concept.
Everyday Positivity Records Its 3,000th Episode

Indie podcaster Kate Cocker has recorded Episode 3,000 of Everyday Positivity — a daily podcast full of positive affirmations and messages of encouragement.
What started as a personal project to help manage Kate’s depression has become a daily ritual for thousands of listeners, with Kate broadcasting new episodes every day for more than eight years. When Kate Cocker first picked up the mic, she didn’t know whether podcasting would help her feel better. After various bouts of depression and stress over the last decade, when nothing seemed to help, she started Everyday Positivity, a daily podcast of positive affirmations and messages of encouragement.
“It was a wonderful experience to feel championed, loved, and positively spoken to,” says Kate, recalling the fitness class that first inspired her. “As I started to feel better, I realized that this was the key: a daily reminder that you’ve got this, that you’re strong, so you can feel good about yourself.”
What started as a personal project has now become a daily ritual for thousands of listeners, with Kate recording and broadcasting an episode every day for more than eight years — receiving over 8 million all-time downloads since the podcast began in 2018.
A 2026 survey of more than 100 Everyday Positivity listeners found that 44% have been listening for more than five years, including 5% who have tuned in since day one. 60% of respondents said they listen every day.
Listeners describe the “short and sweet” format as an easy, uplifting part of their daily routine, while Kate’s down-to-earth, relatable approach is repeatedly highlighted as one of the things they value most. They also said that Everyday Positivity helps them manage anxiety, reframe negative thoughts, and learn to be kinder to themselves, as well as providing support through challenges including work stress, parenting, and grief.
The community has grown beyond the daily podcast through Everyday Positivity “Hangouts”, where listeners can meet Kate and each other. The relationships have become so strong that Kate even officiated one listener’s wedding in Kenya.
As Episode 3,000 approaches, Kate is planning “100 days of fun” to celebrate the milestone, with new guests and experts, a “Wonder News” segment where listeners can share stories that made them feel good, and a listener party on Friday 6th November.
Kate Cocker heads up a team of Presenter Coaches who turn leaders into great communicators — she believes great communication can change your life and the culture you work in.
Kate is also the co-founder of the podcast production company Purposeful Podcasts, and an alumna of the DCMS Audio Content Fund Panel.
Be Hope Podcast Takeover Returns For Second Year As Shows Unite to Elevate Stories of Progress and Optimism

In a rare global collaboration, major podcasts have come together to inspire hope. The collaboration reflects the central message of The Hope Report: The Next Era of Progress: that even amid conflict and aid cuts, progress is not over and new forms of collective action continue to emerge. In episodes released this week, top podcasts from India, the UK, the US, Canada, South Africa and Australia are joined by activists, experts and influential public figures. Their energizing conversations spotlight meaningful progress, the people making it and the areas where change could happen next — offering a hopeful take on the future, while remaining honest about the scale of the challenges ahead.

Venture Doctors premieres

What’s This Podcast About: Lightspeed launched Venture Doctors, a podcast hosted by two partners who are also physicians. The podcast is about the founders, technologies, and ideas changing how care is delivered.
The people solving the biggest problems in healthcare often have very different conversations. Physicians discuss outcomes. Founders discuss products. Investors discuss scale. “The questions we'll ask and answer are: What is genuinely improving patient outcomes? What new models work at scale? And what does it take to turn a promising idea into lasting change?”
Who Will Enjoy This Podcast: People who care that our entire Healthcare system is crumbling, Tech Fans, and people who love process control.
Creator/Host: Dr. Brenton Fargnoli, who leads the firm’s healthtech investing, and Dr. Galym Imanbayev, who teaches at Stanford Medical School.
What I love about the show: First, their studio is impressive. It could be a studio for a broadcast TV show. Second, the doctors are articulate and insightful. Third, delivering better healthcare to patients via technology is a critical issue.
Dr. Brenton Fargnoli says: “I started as a physician. While practicing, I was struck by how much of healthcare delivery still relied on antiquated technology, from pagers and faxes to electronic health records. That eventually took me to Flatiron Health and then into investing. As physicians, Galym, Shelley, and I have seen where healthcare can break down. As investors, we meet the people trying to rebuild it. Now we’re opening up those conversations.”
Recommended Episode to start listening with: The first guest is Jacob Schiff, Chief AI and Technology Officer at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
